Dragon Copilot AI assistant streamlining clinical documentation workflows for healthcare providers, reducing burnout with voice-powered automation.
Voice Automated  |  Dragon Copilot Release Update

The latest Dragon Copilot release delivers meaningful upgrades across the board — from richer customizable templates and multi-intent chat prompts for physicians to a fully general-availability nursing experience with deeper Epic integration. Here's what changed, why it matters to your clinical team, and how Voice Automated can help you get the most from every new capability.

What You Need to Know

This update broadens device access, strengthens clinical accuracy, and streamlines documentation for both physicians and nurses. Many features are available automatically. Others can be configured by your Voice Automated implementation team to match your organization's specific clinical environment.

Physician & Clinician Enhancements

Customizable Templates — Enhanced Capabilities Physician

Customizable templates now offer significantly expanded functionality. The biggest change: templates can now process both the AI-generated note and the encounter transcript together, producing richer, more complete documentation.

Clinicians can choose from three processing modes per template — note plus transcript, note only, or transcript only — giving them control over exactly how their documentation is assembled. The practical impact includes the ability to incorporate verbatim transcript statements directly into notes, reuse patient information across multiple sections beyond the HPI, and capture more detailed risk information in the assessment and plan.

Self-guided eLearning materials are available for quick adoption, and your Voice Automated team can assist with configuration and optimization for your specific workflows.

Complete Multiple Actions with One Prompt Physician

Dragon Copilot Chat now supports advanced multi-intent prompts — meaning clinicians can accomplish several tasks in a single interaction instead of issuing commands one at a time. The system maintains shared clinical context across the combined request.

In practice, this means a physician can capture codes while simultaneously surfacing supporting information from trusted sources, generate patient instruction letters using external clinical guidelines, or update clinical notes and capture codes in one step.

This feature is available now and can be enabled by your Voice Automated team for organizations that want to activate it.

Expanded Workflow Capabilities Physician

Users who build custom workflows in Dragon Copilot desktop now have more flexibility. Enhanced keyboard shortcuts — including Enter and Shift-key combinations — close key gaps with legacy Dragon Medical One behavior and bring broader support for desktop shortcuts.

New voice commands have also been added as workflow steps: "Anchor dictation," "Release dictation," and "Show anchored app." For organizations using custom workflows, Voice Automated recommends confirming that key-press steps function as expected after updating to the latest version.

Dictation Formatting Parity with Dragon Medical One Physician

Dragon Copilot now offers the same formatting preferences clinicians use in Dragon Medical One — including dictation style, punctuation rules, and section formatting. Existing DMO formatting configurations are applied automatically, ensuring a smooth and consistent transition for physicians moving between platforms.

A future release will allow clinicians to view and customize these formatting options directly within Dragon Copilot.

Expanded Full Text Control for More EHRs Physician

Full text control — which allows Dragon Copilot to fully understand and interact with text fields in clinical systems — now supports additional applications and EHRs including Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, Allscripts, Altera, Cerner, i.s.h.med, and Softway.

This means advanced editing, precise text selection, navigation commands, and richer dictation workflows that match the Dragon Medical One experience across more of the tools clinicians use every day. Full text control is enabled automatically with the latest Dragon Copilot desktop client.

Safe Web Search in Dragon Copilot Chat Physician

Dragon Copilot Chat can now access relevant information from web sources directly within the clinical workflow, with strict clinical safeguards in place. When predefined trusted sources don't provide enough information, safe web search fills the gap using encounter context to deliver accurate, transparent results — while reducing the risk of clinical misinformation.

Nursing Experience — Now Generally Available

The nursing experience in Dragon Copilot is now generally available, bringing ambient AI documentation capabilities to nursing teams with deep Epic integration. This release includes several important nursing-specific features:

Lines, Drains, and Airways (LDA) Additions & Removals Nursing

Nurses can now add new LDAs or remove existing LDAs while documenting patient care — on top of the existing ability to complete LDA assessments. This workflow is fully integrated end-to-end with Epic Rover and Epic Hyperspace, reducing manual charting steps and keeping documentation flowing alongside bedside care.

Activation requires Epic configuration. Contact Voice Automated for implementation coordination and access to updated User Acceptance Testing documentation.

Verify EHR User Linking Nursing

A new security layer ensures each Dragon Copilot nursing user is connected to the correct EHR identity. When enabled, users complete a simple one-time sign-in to their EHR account from within Dragon Copilot. The system compares the authenticated EHR identity with the administrator's configured mapping — if identities match, the user can access only their own EHR-originated sessions. If they don't match, the user is prompted to contact their administrator.

This safeguard reduces the risk of exposing sensitive clinical data to the wrong user. Voice Automated can assist with provisioning, user setup, and validation testing.

Status Indicators and Recording Notifications Nursing

Nurses now have clear, real-time microphone status indicators and recording notifications in the Epic embedded experience — ensuring they always know when documentation is being actively captured and reducing the risk of missed entries.

Additional Updates

Orders Setting Default Change Physician

The default behavior for the Orders setting is now disabled for new users. Existing configurations are not affected — if Orders is currently enabled for your organization, it will remain enabled. New users who need orders functionality will need it enabled during setup. Your Voice Automated implementation team handles this as part of standard onboarding.

US, CA, and UK only

Regional Template Improvements Physician

Customizable templates in the UK and Republic of Ireland have been refined to better align with regional language and clinical usage, improving output quality, relevance, and consistency for customers in these markets.
