Dragon Professional Anywhere and Dragon Anywhere Mobile Are Also Being RetiredThree products, one timeline — how to tell which one you actually have

Most coverage of this mentions one product. There are three, and the biggest one isn’t the legal edition.

Part of a series. The full picture, including sourcing and options, is in Dragon Legal Anywhere Is Being Discontinued: What Law Firms Need to Know.

Most coverage of this only mentions one product

The retirement being discussed in the Nuance channel is not a single product. It names three: Dragon Legal Anywhere, Dragon Professional Anywhere, and Dragon Anywhere Mobile.

Dragon Legal Anywhere gets the attention because law firms are a visible, vocal market. But Dragon Professional Anywhere has by far the larger installed base, spanning healthcare administration, insurance, accounting, public sector, engineering, social services — and plenty of law firms who bought Professional rather than the legal edition.

If you or your staff dictate into anything called “Dragon” and it runs through the cloud, this page is about you.

First: figure out what you actually have

The single most common source of confusion — and it matters enormously, because only some Dragon products are being retired.

The retiring products — cloud / subscription

Product How you can tell
Dragon Professional Anywhere Cloud-based. Subscription or rental, billed per user per year. Sign in and your profile follows you to any machine. Often deployed with SpeechMike or PowerMic hardware.
Dragon Legal Anywhere Same as above, plus a legal vocabulary — citations, legal terminology.
Dragon Anywhere Mobile The iOS/Android app. Subscription. Dictates on a phone or tablet.

The products reported to continue — desktop / perpetual

Product How you can tell
Dragon Professional 16 Installed on a specific PC. Bought outright, version-numbered. No monthly or annual per-user subscription.
Dragon Legal 16 Same, with legal vocabulary.

The quick test: do you pay for Dragon every year, per person? Then you likely have an Anywhere product, and this affects you. Did you pay once, for a version number? Then you likely have a desktop product, and current reporting says it continues.

If you genuinely can’t tell, the answer is on your invoice or in your reseller agreement. It is worth five minutes to find out.

The timeline is the same for all three

End of sale
December 31, 2026

No new licences. Final renewal window closes.

End of life
December 31, 2027

No security updates, no fixes, no support.

Detailed treatment of what each date means: Dragon Legal Anywhere End of Life — The Dates.

A caveat we want to be straight about

The channel reporting is clearest on Dragon Legal Anywhere and Dragon Professional Anywhere. Dragon Anywhere Mobile is named in the retirement but has received the least commentary of the three. If the mobile app is the product you depend on, we would treat the timeline as indicative and get confirmation from whoever holds your subscription.

What this means outside law firms

Most of what has been written about this frames it as a legal story. It isn’t, particularly.
🏥

Clinical & healthcare admin

You are being asked to decide in a market that is simultaneously being reshaped by ambient documentation tools. That is genuinely more complex than a like-for-like replacement, and it deserves more than a hurried renewal.

📱

Mixed environments

Some staff on desktops, some mobile, some in the field. Check each group separately — the mobile users may be on Dragon Anywhere Mobile, which is a distinct subscription with its own contract.

👤

Solo & small practices

The mobile app may be the whole workflow. That is the least-documented product in this retirement, and the one worth chasing an answer on soonest.

🏛️

Public sector & frameworks

Procurement cycles are long. An end-of-sale date fourteen months out is not much runway when a purchase requires a tender.

Where these dates come from

Same disclosure as everywhere else in this series, because it matters more than the dates themselves.
What exists

Thax Software, a certified Nuance partner, publishing the dates on June 26, 2026 and attributing the decision to “Microsoft and Nuance.”

A second Nuance channel partner giving materially the same guidance.

A competing vendor telling its own partner channel the same timeline in a July 2026 briefing.

What does not exist

As of July 31, 2026, we could find no announcement from Microsoft or Nuance stating any of this publicly. The most recent client release we can identify is version 2025.1, and the products remain downloadable and installable today.

Two of the vendor’s own partners and one competitor, all describing the same retirement. That is meaningful corroboration. It is not a press release.

We think the retirement is real. We are telling you the sourcing is channel-level rather than vendor-level, because if you are about to make a procurement decision you should know how firm the ground is.

What to do this week

Three things, none of which commit you to anything.
1️⃣

Identify what each group has

Invoice or reseller agreement. Cloud or desktop. Half of the confusion around this dissolves at this step.

2️⃣

Find your renewal date

Ask your reseller whether you can renew inside 2026. Channel reporting says one final renewal is available. That is your safety net, and it expires December 31.

3️⃣

Don’t buy anything yet

There is no technical emergency. The pressure between now and December is commercial, not operational, and rushed replacement decisions in this category tend to be expensive ones.

Last updated July 31, 2026. Dates sourced to Nuance channel partners and a partner briefing; no official Microsoft or Nuance announcement was publicly available at the time of writing. Dragon Anywhere Mobile has received the least channel commentary of the three products and its timeline should be confirmed independently.
