The short version: eClinicalWorks is ending the Dragon Medical One it provides inside eCW in mid-November 2026. When it ends, providers who dictate through it lose Dragon. You don’t have to give it up. Dragon Medical One works directly with eClinicalWorks, web and desktop, and Voice Automated can have your providers dictating again the same day.

What’s changing

Many eCW practices never bought Dragon on its own. It came bundled through eClinicalWorks.

That bundled Dragon Medical One is going away. eClinicalWorks is ending it in mid-November 2026, and practices that rely on it need another way to keep dictating before then.

Nothing about Dragon itself is ending. Dragon Medical One is still Microsoft’s current cloud speech recognition for clinicians, and it is still supported in eClinicalWorks. What’s ending is one way of getting it. If you buy Dragon Medical One directly, your providers keep the dictation they already know, in the EHR they already use.

What it means for your practice

1

Dictation stops on the cutoff

Providers who dictate through eCW’s Dragon lose it when the integrated licensing ends. Notes go back to typing until you have a replacement in place.

2

The habit is the hard part

Your providers have years of Dragon muscle memory: their commands, their phrasing, their pace. Switching to a different tool means relearning all of it.

3

You have a choice

You can move to a different documentation tool, or keep Dragon Medical One by licensing it directly. Make the choice before the cutoff, not after it.

Your three options

Each one is a real option. The right answer depends on how your providers work today.

Keep Dragon Medical One

License it directly through Voice Automated. Same Dragon, same eCW, web or desktop. Your providers barely notice the switch. This is the option for practices that want no disruption.

Step up to Dragon Copilot

Dragon Copilot adds ambient AI to Dragon dictation: it drafts the note from the visit. It integrates with eClinicalWorks today. See which note sections it writes in eCW →

Switch tools entirely

Some practices will use the cutoff to try something else. That works too. Just plan for the time it takes providers to retrain, and line it up before mid-November.

Why go through Voice Automated

Voice Automated has three decades in healthcare voice, and practices already call us about Dragon.

You get one team that already knows Dragon in eClinicalWorks, a person who answers when you call, and help with training and support after go-live. If you later want ambient AI, the step up to Dragon Copilot stays with the same partner and the same support line.

One more date to check while you’re here: older Dragon Medical One LTSR installs stop working on December 31, 2026. Here’s what that means →

Frequently asked questions

Is eClinicalWorks ending Dragon Medical One?

eClinicalWorks is ending the Dragon Medical One it provides inside eCW, in mid-November 2026. Dragon Medical One itself is not ending. It is still Microsoft’s current cloud speech recognition for clinicians, and practices can keep using it in eClinicalWorks by licensing it directly.

Does Dragon Medical One still work with eClinicalWorks?

Yes. Dragon Medical One supports eClinicalWorks on both web and desktop. Licensing it directly lets providers keep dictating into eCW after the integrated version ends.

How fast can we switch?

Usually the same day. Once licensed, each provider is typically set up and dictating in about ten minutes.

How much does Dragon Medical One cost through Voice Automated?

$69 per provider per month. Call 1-800-597-6600 for multi-provider practices.

What happens if we do nothing before mid-November?

Providers who dictate through eCW’s integrated Dragon lose dictation when it ends, and go back to typing until a replacement is in place. Setting up direct licenses before the cutoff avoids the gap.

Should we move to Dragon Copilot instead?

If your providers want the note drafted for them, it’s worth a look. Dragon Copilot adds ambient AI to Dragon dictation and integrates with eClinicalWorks today. Many practices keep Dragon Medical One through the cutoff and evaluate Dragon Copilot on their own schedule.
